Hello
I'm Timothy, the Founder & Artistic Director of FaceNoise. I have had the privilege to work in many areas of the choral industry, and know how good it is for you. Group singing is disappearing in the UK, so I set up FaceNoise as an experimental choral foundation to research and meet these issues head-on through community, education and performance.
My Story
Hi! I'm Timothy Divine (né Peters), a conductor, composer and tenor based in Sheffield. I perform around the UK as an oratorio soloist and classical session singer, regularly working with Sony Music Masterworks company RG Live. Highlights have included performances with the San Francisco Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, British Sinfonietta, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, London Concert Orchestra and Ensemble Deva at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Centre, Bridgewater Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, as well as broadcasts on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 4. I also record and tour extensively with Kantos Chamber Choir, and before returning north last year, I sang with the Chapels Royal choir at the Tower of London.
Alongside performing, I work as a music leader and educator. I’m currently Vocal Director of European Youth Summer Music, and have recently worked with Barnsley Youth Choir, celebrating international success representing Great Britain at the Canta al Mar International Choir Competition in Spain, where the choir won both the Youth and Pop categories and achieved the highest score of the competition in 2025. I’m also part of Music Staff for the National Youth Choir, having previously been awarded a Fellowship during which I recorded Ben Nobuto’s Sol, which later received an Ivor Novello Award.
Back in Sheffield, I’m delighted to work as Assistant Music Director of both Sheffield Oratorio Chorus and Steel City Choristers, while continuing to lead choral outreach for Grange Park Opera in the region. I also work with Sheffield Theatres as a vocal coach, most recently on their production of A Christmas Carol, where reviews praised the “knockout vocals” and “unbelievably effective” ensemble sound, with a cappella choral work at the heart of the production.
In January 2025, I founded this -- FaceNoise -- a non-profit choral foundation focused on bringing collaborative and creative music-making to new singers and audiences through community choirs, workshops, retreats and discovery weekends. Much of my current composition work explores choral retellings of Peak District folk stories, inspired by Joe Winstanley’s FOLKS series.
Outside of music, I love spending time outdoors — usually fell running or exploring with my gorgeous wife and our rambunctious border collie — ideally rounded off with a fine regional ale.
