About the event
The Mantra Method uses a rhythm cycle and melody/tone row that participants fill in to determine the soundscape that is conjured. This opening workshop will serve as an opportunity to get familiar with the system. Initially, the rhythmic and melodic options will be very basic, in order to make sure everyone feels comfortable reading the notation.
The system is infinitely scalable and can generate an incredible nimbus of sound. The beauty is in the randomness of the generated mantra, passing through dense chords, unison or silence.
This workshop also serves as an interactive way of developing musicianship via pitch independence and decoupling the singer from reading notation and the feeling of the role of the pitch in the harmony.
The idea is that the method will be taught in a practical way to participants. Once enough people are familiar with the theory, mindfulness retreats will be organised where Mantra Methods…
