Becoming a Choral Artist is a little like joining a Friends or supporters’ scheme at another arts organisation. Your membership helps FaceNoise create ambitious choral projects, develop new work and make more opportunities available to singers—while giving you a closer relationship with the organisation throughout the year.

Led by conductor and composer Timothy Divine, FaceNoise Studio brings singers together for distinctive projects in Sheffield and the Peak District. Our work draws on contemporary music, older choral traditions, new arrangements and original compositions, often exploring ideas connected with landscape, folklore, season and the natural world.

Choral Fieldwork
Our Choral Fieldwork projects take singing beyond the conventional rehearsal room, using acoustically and historically resonant spaces to connect with the landscape around us.
The first instalment of Music for Stone Chambers took place in August 2026, when singers performed inside Blue John Cavern near Castleton and in a quarry at Hope Valley Cement Works.
Come & Sing—with a twist
FaceNoise’s artistic process is Concept, Connect, Collaborate. Our Come & Sing days place brilliant choral works at their heart, but each begins with a strong curatorial idea. The music is brought together by a particular theme, story, season or place, creating an experience that is more than simply working through a collection of pieces.
Mantra Method
Developed by FaceNoise Artistic Director Timothy Divine, Mantra Method is a form of collaborative choral meditation.
Singers begin by learning to navigate a graphic score—something not entirely unlike a board game. As the session unfolds, the group generates its own harmonic progressions and cycles through the score together, creating an immersive and constantly evolving choral sound bath.
No conventional sight-reading is required.
Be a session singer for a day
The words “session singer” might bring to mind backing vocalists adding harmonies behind a solo artist. But session singers can also be found alongside orchestras, performing on cinematic concerts, recordings and film scores—often reading complex music from a score.
These experiences needn’t be reserved for professionals. Timothy Divine has worked with a range of artists and bands to create live and recorded choral accompaniments. FaceNoise Studio Choir projects offer experienced singers the chance to step into that world and discover what being a session singer is really like.
You don’t need to attend every project—or belong to a regular choir—to become a Choral Artist. Membership is for people who believe in what FaceNoise is building and would like to take part when the right project comes along.
