About the event

You do not need to have attended the first session to sign up to this one. Integrated in our normal Pop Chorus session will be a 45-min workshop on a modern version of solfège and the Curwen hand symbols. This a musicianship class, and is an opportunity to also learn some basic music theory.

Being the second session on this topic, we will be adding advanced symbols (such as chromatic notes), and playing pitch games, helping you to solidify your practice.

By identifying pitches with hand symbols, musicians are better able to get out of their heads and recall precise notes in a scale. The added advantage of this is that you no longer need to try and work out intervals between notes. You can simply spot the scale degree of the note (i.e. an 'A' in D Major is the fifth scale degree, or the dominant), sign the hand…
