Media & Content Assistant

deadline for applications - 23 January

FaceNoise Choral Foundation – Sheffield

£17/hour | 6-8 hours per fortnight | Hybrid | 8-week probation

FaceNoise is a Sheffield-based creative choral foundation exploring the cross-roads between group-singing, communal artistry, and the shake-up of Britain’s choral traditions. We run the weekly community choir called Pop Chorus; FaceNoise Singers meet for multi day ‘classical’ retreats; and soon we will be launching the Emerging Choral Artists programme, as well as our professional ensemble.

We’re looking for a Media & Content Assistant to help document our work and bring the FaceNoise story to life online. We’re searching for someone with a creative voice who is excited about radically progressing choral music—from community singing to ambitious contemporary classical performance.

The Role

  • Attend Pop Chorus on Mondays 7-9PM as detailed later on

    • (capturing content is encouraged, but attendance itself is the requirement)

  • Capture content using both phone and camera/microphone

    • (quick phone edits + more interesting edits using external audio/video)

  • Create short-form content (Reels etc.)

  • Use existing visual assets and follow brand style

  • Write captions and schedule posts

  • Light community engagement

  • Organise media assets in our shared Dropbox

  • Support occasional media for concerts/retreats

Social media presence is the first goal that a media-literate person can help us with. We are ultimately hoping to find someone who could develop into a Creative Producer, working on longer-form creative capture in the future (interviews, retreat media, documentary-style work). Quick content is essential now, but the long-term ambition is deeper storytelling and creative media-making. However, this isn’t essential if you’re already great at social media stuff and can seamlessly slot right into this role.

The Candidate…

  • A visual storyteller

  • Comfortable filming people and musical activity

  • Able to create quick-fire phone content but also interested in more imaginative, slower, creative video work over time

  • Confident editing short-form video

  • Organised with files and media assets

  • Collaborative and happy to take (and give) feedback

  • Interested in music, creativity, or arts culture

We are interested in you as a creative person. If you have art you’re proud of—whether that’s music, photography, painting, design, dance, writing or something else—please share it. We are looking for someone with broad influences and a genuine creative voice.

Essential:

  • Your own phone with good camera

  • Willingness to develop professional editing software skills

  • Reels/TikTok familiarity

  • Balance of quick phone edits and higher-quality edits with camera + mic

Desirable:

  • Fluent social media content strategisation

  • You have your own dedicated camera and microphone

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience or interest in choral music

  • Artistic eye for visual composition (still and moving image)

  • Keenness to develop with the role as the charity grows

Income & Impact

FaceNoise grows when our visibility grows. The more your work helps bring people through the door—especially Pop Chorus—the more scope there is for additional work, more hours, higher pay and increased responsibility.

Growth & Progression

This role is designed to grow with FaceNoise. Possible progression:

Digital Media Lead > Creative Producer > Head of Media (future FaceNoise structure)

Longer-form capture (retreats, interviews, documentary work) is the long-term direction of this role. Social content helps us develop audience, voice and visual storytelling on the way there.

Not Looking for the Long-Term Creative Producer Path?

If you’re already excellent at social media content creation and not necessarily looking for a longer progression into creative producing, please still apply. Social media and short-form content are incredibly important to FaceNoise right now.

In this case, your line manager will be more hands-off, and will expect a stronger level of output and results in a shorter time frame. That’s absolutely fine—this role can work brilliantly for someone highly skilled who wants to make an immediate impact without necessarily moving into longer-form projects.

Working Expectations

Ownership

All media (footage, edits, project files) created for FaceNoise will be owned by FaceNoise and stored in our shared Dropbox.

Attendance (office hours)

You must achieve 60% attendance at Pop Chorus (Mondays 7–9PM). This essentially serves as an opportunity to touch base with the Artistic Director and capture new content if needed.

Other contracted hours should be completed remotely or as arranged.

Content Output

The following should be achievable within the contracted hours:

  • Monthly content plan required

  • Story posted on minimum 5 days per week

  • Minimum 2 grid posts per week

  • Minimum 2 × 60-second posts per month

Community Engagement

Passive engagement such as liking, sharing and responding to positive comments is encouraged. This is not an admin role and you will not be expected to handle enquiries or bookings.

Ads

Paid ads are handled further up the managerial chain. You are encouraged to suggest ideas.

Approval

All posts require pre-approval during probation. Thereafter, all posts that aren’t stories would be scheduled, so the line manager will be able to see them in advance at their discretion.

Purpose of the Role

This role exists to grow FaceNoise’s visibility, increase engagement, help bring more people into our choirs, events and projects, and revolutionise the image of the choral scene in the UK.

Application Task

Applicants will receive a short creative brief and be asked to submit:

  1. One short-form video (plus caption)

  2. One static post (plus caption)

We’re looking for tone, storytelling and creative instinct—not perfection.

When you apply, feel free to share any creative work you’re proud of. It doesn’t have to be media-specific—music, visual art, dance, design, whatever. We care about your creative voice as much as your editing skills. You can share this however you like: links, attachments etc. We will take the time to look at it.

How to Apply

Send the following to info@facenoise.org

  1. Cover letter in the form of an email

    • Opportunity to include links/examples of your work

  2. Confirmation you can attend Pop Chorus on Mondays as detailed above

  3. CV or portfolio if relevant. We fully appreciate you may be seeking a creative job for the first time; a traditional CV is not important to us… we are after the right person not provenance.

We will reply with the creative brief.

Please feel free to get in touch informally with any questions prior to application too.

Next Steps…

If successful with the application stage, you will be invited to interview.

From here, final stage candidates will be asked to join half a session of Pop Chorus.
